Job Description
A leading UK higher education institution is seeking a Research Contracts Manager to support a world-class science faculty known for pioneering research across the physical, mathematical and life sciences. As a Research Contracts Manager, you will play a key part in enabling high-impact academic research by drafting, reviewing, negotiating and approving a broad range of research agreements. You will collaborate with a wide spectrum of partners including major industry sponsors, innovative start-ups, charitable organisations, government bodies and international academic institutions.

Working closely with internal academic and professional services colleagues, you ll advise on contractual matters relating to externally-funded research and ensure agreements protect the institution s charitable status, future research freedom, publication rights and appropriate handling of intellectual property.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Research Contracts Manager who enjoys working in an ambitious research environment and wants to support projects with genuine global impact.

This is a full time, open-ended contract (permanent) based in London, working 3 days on-site, less over the holiday periods.

The Role:
  • Providing high-quality research contract advice to academic and administrative staff across a variety of funders and collaborators.
  • Preparing draft research agreements in discussion with academic and departmental staff, taking into consideration specific project requirements.
  • Reviewing research agreements and efficiently negotiating with a range of sponsors to achieve the best possible contractual terms within their policies.
  • Be familiar with university administration processes to facilitate pre-contractual arrangements.
  • Maintaining the computerised records, ensuring that management information is accurate and up-to-date.

What we are looking for:
  • An experienced and effective Research Contracts Manager with proven understanding and meaningful experience of research contract negotiations. You will possess knowledge of the unique issues of research contracts from the demonstrable experience you will have gained, ideally in the Higher Education Sector or within a similar context.
  • Our colleagues expect us to demonstrate excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and have the ability to articulate complex issues clearly and concisely to a wide range of people of varying levels of knowledge and expertise.
  • You will thrive in a fast-paced environment and feel comfortable effectively prioritising your workload in order to ensure the timely delivery across multiple projects.
  • You will work well both autonomously and as part of a dynamic team.
