- Emergent Ventures backed biomedical research platform

Location

Job Description

You will own the scientific and ML core of Discovery Synth, architecting novel retrieval, reasoning, and knowledge representation systems for high stakes biomedical research. This is a true co founder role where you will design multi source evidence synthesis frameworks that outperform manual processes, moving beyond simple API wrappers to build foundational infrastructure for scientific discovery.

Why this role is remarkable
  • High equity founding role with total ownership over the research agenda and technical roadmap from day zero.
  • Backed by Tyler Cowen's Emergent Ventures, tackling a massive market with a benchmarked product that completes months of manual work in hours.
  • Opportunity to publish novel frameworks in scientific NLP and evidence extraction while building a product with immediate clinical and pharmaceutical impact.
What you will do
  • Architect production grade retrieval augmented generation and reasoning systems that handle heterogeneous data types across clinical and mechanistic domains.
  • Design and implement sophisticated knowledge representation systems and ontology mapping to treat scientific evidence as a first class object.
  • Lead the technical strategy and evidence extraction pipelines, ensuring high accuracy against gold standard published evidence for major pharmaceutical use cases.
Ideal Candidate
  • Proven track record of rigorous systems level ML research with publications at top tier venues like NeurIPS, ICML, ACL, or EMNLP.
  • Experience at a frontier AI lab such as DeepMind, OpenAI, or Anthropic, or a leading academic research group at institutions like Cambridge, Stanford, or UCL.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals with the ability to bridge the gap between theoretical research and building scalable, production ready scientific discovery tools.
