Research Associate in Photosymbiosis and Animal Behaviour

The University of Bristol is recruiting a Research Associate to contribute to an innovative project at the intersection of photosymbiosis and animal behaviour. Based in London, this full-time post sits within the Biological Sciences discipline and is aimed at researchers with a passion for advancing our understanding of how organisms interact with their symbiotic partners and the behavioural implications of these relationships. The role is part of a Human Frontier Science Program-funded initiative led by Vengamanaidu Modepalli's research group, offering the opportunity to engage with cutting-edge questions in ecology, evolution and behaviour. This position provides an intellectually stimulating environment to conduct independent research while collaborating with a diverse team of experts.

Eligibility Criteria
  • A PhD (awarded or imminent) in Biological Sciences, Animal Behaviour, Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, Symbiosis research or a related discipline.
  • A strong academic record demonstrating the capacity to undertake high-quality research and contribute to project goals.
Required Expertise, Skills
  • Excellent understanding of animal behaviour and/or symbiotic systems with the ability to design and lead empirical studies or theoretical analyses within the project framework.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams, contribute to publications and communicate findings clearly to scientific and broader research audiences.
  • Competence in relevant research methods, data analysis and scientific writing that will support the objectives of the HFSP-funded project.
Salary Details

The post is graded at Grade I with a competitive UK academic salary range of £39,906 to £44,746 per annum, commensurate with relevant experience.
