Job Description
Research Associate / Postdoc (m/f/x) - Statistical Physics and Nonlinear Dynamics of Complex Systems and Networks

At the Faculty of Physics, Institute of Theoretical Physics, the Chair of Network Dynamics (Prof. Marc Timme, networkdynamics.info ), affiliated with the Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden (cfaed), offers a position as Research Associate / Postdoc (m/f/x) in basic research on statistical physics and nonlinear dynamics of complex systems and networks.

The position is limited to three years (with the option of extension) and governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). Remuneration is according to salary group E 13 TV-L. The role aims at obtaining further academic qualification (typically a habilitation thesis).

Tasks
  • Mathematical and theoretical research on collective dynamical phenomena of complex systems and networks, with a focus on externally perturbed systems
  • Applications in physics, engineering, or biology
  • Supporting the Chair in all matters, including acquisition of third-party funding
  • Establishing and executing collaborative research
  • Teaching at Bachelor's and Master's levels in Physics
Requirements
  • Outstanding university and PhD degree in Theoretical Physics or a closely related field
  • Experience in mathematical modeling, statistical physics, and nonlinear dynamics
  • Advanced programming skills
  • A theory background in stochastic thermodynamics, advanced stochastic processes, or related topics is a plus
  • Excellent command of English and willingness to learn German
  • High self-motivation, independent, target- and solution-driven work attitude
  • Ideally, experience in (co-)supervising students and in collaborative research
  • Willingness to bridge into new fields and learn new tools
