Research Assistant / Laboratory Technician

Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Research Assistant / Lab Technician provides logistical support across various aspects of lab operations in addition to performing original scientific research.

Essential Functions

• Performs routine lab maintenance tasks, including pouring LB agar plates, preparing buffers, autoclaving, and managing waste disposal.
• Performs basic administrative tasks, including monitoring lab supplies, coordinating purchasing, and scheduling lab meetings.
• Provides logistical support, training, and supervision for undergraduate researchers.
• Conducts original scientific research on the molecular mechanisms of translesion polymerase activity in the bacterial species Bacillus subtilis.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience

• B.S./B.A. or higher degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related field. Degree must be conferred by start date. Current seniors completing their degree in Spring 2026 are encouraged to apply.
• Minimum 1 year of previous research experience in a chemistry or biology laboratory setting. Part time research experience (e.g., as an undergraduate researcher) is acceptable if it represented a meaningful research experience with a significant time commitment.

Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills

• Organized and detail oriented.
• Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage time efficiently, whether working independently or in a collaborative setting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience with microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and/or microscopy is highly desirable.
• Previous experience with programming (particularly in MATLAB) and/or quantitative image analysis is highly desirable.

Salary

Minimum Starting Salary: $48,000. Maximum Starting Salary: $48,000. Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
