Our Patient Solutions Team are proud to provide the wheelchair service on behalf of the NHS in Derbyshire. We have a fantastic opportunity for a Rehabilitation Engineer to join our team.

The role

As Rehabilitation Engineer, you will be responsible for the assessment, specification and provision of wheelchairs. You will undertake engineering modifications and provide technical, biomechanical and safety related input to multidisciplinary wheelchair services teams and patients/carers

  • To be an autonomous specialist Rehabilitation Engineer, supporting the multi-disciplinary team working within Derbyshire Wheelchair service in clinic and in patients' homes
  • Assessing and prescribing wheelchairs, seating and accessories to patients' based on their clinical needs
  • Planning, monitoring and reviewing treatment plans, including pressure mapping.
  • Take a leading role in multidisciplinary clinics, conducting specialist assessments for wheelchairs and complex seating solutions for clients with highly complex needs
  • Preparing and presenting training courses on aspects of mobility and special seating services, including demonstrations to in-house staff, other healthcare professionals and others

What are we looking for?

  • A degree or equivalent in an appropriate engineering discipline
  • Experience as a Rehabilitation Engineer within wheelchair services including the assessment and provision of specialist postural seating, manual wheelchairs and electric powered indoor / outdoor chairs
  • Registration with either the Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT) or Academy of Healthcare Science (AHCS)
  • Work within professional standards and clinical guidelines whilst promoting best practice
  • Extensive working knowledge of human anatomy and physiology coupled with experience in the physical assessment of posture
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate appropriately with colleagues, other professionals, carers, and patients
  • Practically minded, and confident with technology, systems, and processes
  • Ability to plan and organise own caseload effectively
  • Full UK driving license
  • This role is subject to a DBS check.
