Registered Nurse - Ward 5A

We are recruiting for a Registered Nurse - Ward 5A who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

5A is a busy ENT, Plastics and Gynaecology ward. We are looking for a dynamic registered nurse to join our team and support patients to receive the best care. We pride ourselves on our good teamwork and happy workplace.

The role of the band 5 on ward 5A is diverse and offers lots of training opportunities from tracheostomy to leech therapy. All training will be given to the successful candidate.

The Registered Nurse post is a vital and valued role in providing high quality, compassionate nursing care to patients/clients and their families/carers. The role is based on a ward where the nurse works closely with the department/ward manager and multi disciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining policies, standards of nursing care, staff and service development within the ward.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will participate as a member of the nursing team to provide high standard evidence based care, support the team of staff working in the area to deliver quality service linked to high standard patient care, and support the Sisters/Charge Nurses and Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in the training and development of junior staff.

Provide essential nursing care and put the patients first.

Administer medications when due.

Admit, plan, evaluate and discharge patients.

Communicate effectively and work in partnership with patients, nursing colleagues, the multidisciplinary team and all other relevant personnel.

Person Specification Qualifications / Training
  • Registered Nurse on part 1, part 2 or part 12 of the NMC register
  • Mentorship and preceptorship qualification or equivalent (or evidence of working towards it)
  • Evidence of continued professional development in relevant areas of specialty
Previous Experience
  • Experience of nursing within an acute clinical setting
  • Clinical experience working on a surgical ward
  • Current working knowledge and skills in the management of surgical patients, especially ENT, Plastics and Gynaecological surgical patients
  • Experience of caring for patients with multiple co morbidities, complex drug regimes and complex discharge requirements
Skills
  • Evidence of good communication skills both written and verbal
  • Self awareness
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and that of others
  • Understanding of research and audit and a willingness to participate in these within the department
  • Motivated, reliable and flexible individual with an ability to work autonomously.
  • Organisational skills
  • Ability to develop and coordinate departmental training programmes
