Job Description
Overview

Set and implement overarching QSHE policies and guidelines, ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations across all regional organization units.

Responsibilities
  • Directly manage and support the Quality and H&S Personnel within depots throughout the LMSO.
  • Provide health & safety expertise ensuring operational activities comply with legislation and that all HSSE policies and procedures are followed and reviewed.
  • Report into the LSMO Director, serving as part of the Senior team for the North LMSO covering the North of the UK and all of Ireland.
  • Assume lead incident controller role when required, traveling at short notice to site/incident locations.
  • Develop and implement the QHSSE strategy aligned with the organization's Global AIPSM and Occupational Safety policy and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain robust safety management systems and protocols to mitigate risks and maintain a safe working environment; sign off SOPs relating to Safety Critical Tasks.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement corrective actions.
  • Engage and communicate with staff at all levels to promote a strong safety culture, participating in site safety meetings.
  • Foster relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners to enhance safety cooperation.
  • Manage QSHE competency within sites, develop competency plans, set annual goals and objectives.
  • Provide safety training and education programs across the Brenntag group.
  • Offer leadership support to the Brenntag Excellence / lean 6 sigma programme.
  • Support/Attend relevant audits (ISO, BRC, Customer) and ensure audit actions are closed out by deadlines.
  • Participate in depot QM reviews and support internal quality system audits.
  • Ensure audit schedule is maintained and actions from internal audits are closed out promptly.
  • Engage directly with customers on safety and quality matters, including customer site/installation inspections.
  • Drive safety initiatives and campaigns, implementing policies that align with industry best practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of safety programs, recommend improvements, and monitor KPI trends.
  • Prepare safety reports for senior management and stakeholders, highlighting performance and incident trends.
  • Ensure accurate reporting of safety incidents, conduct investigations, determine root causes, and develop preventive measures.
  • Stay updated on safety regulations, standards, and best practices; ensure compliance with UK Health, safety and Environmental regulations and other applicable standards.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, HSE, Environment Agency, Local Authorities; participate in safety-related audits and inspections.
  • Manage major accident hazard identification and risk assessment processes (HAZID, HIRA, PHR, HAZOP).
  • Ensure MAH risks are controlled to ALARP.
  • Prepare and revise permitting/licence documentation relevant to process safety such as the COMAH safety report, EPR permit aspects, and Hazardous Substances Consent.
  • Travel regularly across Ireland, Scotland, and possibly the rest of the UK.
Qualifications
  • Safety experience in Chemicals (essential).
  • Proven ability to develop and implement safety policies and procedures.
  • Experience with incident control and major accident hazard assessment.
  • Knowledge of UK health, safety and environmental regulations and ISO/BRC audit processes.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.
