The Centre for Maternal and Child Health Research is based in the Department of Nursing & Midwifery, which has a thriving team of academics committed to developing highly competent practitioners via our pre registration and postgraduate programmes. It has a strong portfolio of world leading research, particularly within the areas of midwifery, midwifery models of care, perinatal mental health and equity. The Centre works in partnership with service users and community organisations, alongside health and service design experts and providers, to develop and deliver research and education which shapes future leaders and service models. We have a strong critical mass of doctoral and postdoctoral researchers and run a highly regarded international master's programme, Global Maternal Health. Our research has national and international scope and impact.

We invite applications from candidates who have a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area, with demonstrable experience to lead the development of a programme of research. In addition to an excellent research reputation, a corresponding record of internationally excellent publications, and a successful track record of securing research funding from Research Councils and other funding bodies, you should also have experience of delivering strong and effective academic leadership within a university or similar academic environment. You will have significant experience of delivering excellent education and supervising doctoral students to successful completion, together with experience of developing and leading research in this field. You will have the ability to provide leadership within the Centre and department, including mentoring of early and mid career researchers, and a significant contribution to academic excellence within the school is essential. You will be a good communicator, fostering excellent teamwork as well as external networks. A qualification in Midwifery is desirable while knowledge and a strong track record in relevant fields is required.
