Job Description

Aviation Recruitment experts Optime are searching for an experienced Baggage Handler/Ramp Agent to join a well respected and successful client at Gatwick Airport. The job offers full time hours and overtime opportunities.

PLEASE NOTE: APPLICANTS MUST HOLD A FULL VALID UK DRIVING LICENCE.

Pay and Working Hours
  • Rate of pay: £14.70 per hour.
  • Shift pattern: 4 on, 2 off.
  • Shifts: 2 Early, 2 Late, 2 OFF.
  • 9 hour shifts between 04:30 AM and 11:00 PM.
  • 40 hours per week.
  • Weekly pay (every Friday).
  • Temp to Perm (performance based).

Main Duties & Responsibilities
  • Process customers' luggage-ensuring proper loading onto aircraft for departure, unloading upon arrival, and transporting to the airport terminal.
  • Operate both airside and the Undercroft (baggage unit).
  • Manual handling of luggage up to 30 kg; self contained downtime between arrivals or departures.
  • Progressively up skill and operate various vehicles and machinery (mobile stair units, belt loaders, buggies, tug vehicles).
  • Adapt to adverse weather conditions (rain, snow, extreme temperatures) to maintain safety and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with ramp agents, ground handling staff, and airline personnel to ensure timely aircraft turnaround.
  • Receive full training (5 days classroom based plus shadowing).
  • Use full PPE provided by the employer.
Shift Pattern

The airport operates 7 days a week on a 4 on, 2 off rolling rota. This may be subject to change.

An example of the shift hours:

  • Day 1: 04:30 AM to 01:30 PM
  • Day 2: 04:30 AM to 01:30 PM
  • Day 3: 02:00 PM to 11:00 PM
  • Day 4: 02:00 PM to 11:00 PM
  • Day 5: OFF
  • Day 6: OFF
Requirements
  • Full UK manual driving licence (mandatory).
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while being part of a team.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Five year fully checkable reference history.
  • Ability to pass a Criminal Record Check (CRC).
  • 5 year checkable history (as required for the aviation industry).
