Job Description

Rail Conformance Engineer

This role can be worked remotely with potential UK site visits

We are seeking a Conformance Engineer to play a critical role in ensuring that rail vehicles, infrastructure, load units, and associated equipment meet mandatory safety and performance standards. This is a hands-on role combining engineering expertise, assessment, certification, and client engagement.

Key Criteria:

  • Rail Vehicle Engineering, including Electrical & Mechanical Systems Interfaces with Infrastructure
  • Experience with loading units (Intermodal Load Units - ILUs)
  • Vehicle assessment and certification
  • Rail vehicle maintenance and audits

Key accountabilities:

  1. Conduct conformance assessments of new or modified rail infrastructure, rail vehicles, load units, and equipment, ensuring compliance with mandatory standards and safety management requirements.
  2. Evaluate designs for new or modified infrastructure, vehicles, load units, and associated equipment against regulatory requirements, preparing comprehensive assessment reports and certification.
  3. Perform audits of client operations to provide assurance or certification, monitor changes to standards, and produce guidance on conformance assessment practices.
  4. Assess maintenance plans, construction, and testing of rail vehicles, load units, and infrastructure subsystems to ensure compliance throughout their life cycle. Prepare submissions to external approval bodies on behalf of customers.
  5. Provide expert advice to customers and stakeholders on conformance assessment, certification, and relevant regulations, including Interoperability, Common Safety Methods, and Entities in Charge of Maintenance. Conduct technical investigations without compromising certification independence.
