Job Description
R&D Manager 
Our client, a high potential medical device start up, is looking for an R&D Manager to join their team. Reporting to the CEO, the R&D Manager will lead and nurture an engineering team, promote a culture of excellence and technical proficiency, and spearhead strategic projects and initiatives. The R&D Manager will work closely with senior management and stakeholders to deliver product solutions.
Role/Responsibilities:- Lead high complexity projects and initiatives within the business unit, plan, budget, and meet project goals, ensuring adequate staffing.
- Structure and resource the R&D team to develop technologies that ensure business success.
- Mentor, coach, and support career development plans for direct reports; recruit and hire top performing talent and prioritize team development.
- Plan projects, report progress, and maintain all necessary documentation.
- Demonstrate a strategic mindset and the ability to plan and execute across the business to achieve objectives.
- Collaborate with the R&D leadership team to define priorities and contribute to the innovation roadmap.
- Maintain effective communication channels within management and engineering teams.
- Implement process improvements that leverage team talent to increase performance and productivity.
- Oversee projects throughout all development stages, ensuring milestones are met within specified timelines.
- Foster innovation and creativity within the team through mentorship, coaching, and development opportunities.
- Honours Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or related discipline.
- At least 5 years of managerial experience leading R&D teams for new product development.
- Support and positive attributes within a respectful, supportive, goal oriented, scientific, and diverse culture.
- Experience in building teams that deliver results, with a strong understanding of team dynamics.
- Experience in developing medical devices that require complex processes and assembly techniques, with proven ability to deliver results in this setting.
- Strong initiative and follow through in executing project responsibilities, overcoming obstacles, balancing multiple priorities, with technical and/or project leadership experience.
- Experience preparing project proposals, development plans, detailed schedules, product design input requirements, and design verification test plans.
- Experience in medical device design principles, material selection, design concept validation, and test method development.
- Experience working under medical device design controls, with knowledge of design verification/validation, design/process FMEAs.
- Experience with medical device regulations including GMP, QSR, and ISO quality requirements.
- Proficiency with MS Office suite.
