What will you be doing?

We are seeking a hands-on Python Developer to design and develop highly available, scalable automation solutions that form part of the firm's technology platform.

The role will focus on building Python-based applications, automation frameworks and pipeline solutions to support the management and maintenance of a large-scale enterprise infrastructure environment.

A key focus of the role will be developing an automation framework and pipeline environment to support patch deployment across an IBM Spectrum Scale (GPFS) storage environment.

You will:

• Design, develop and maintain production-grade Python applications and automation frameworks.
• Develop automated solutions for infrastructure deployment, patching, monitoring, alerting, inventory and capacity management.
• Build and enhance pipeline environments to automate operational and maintenance activities.
• Integrate Python applications with infrastructure platforms, storage technologies and third-party vendor solutions.
• Develop reusable, scalable and highly available software components that become part of the firm's technology platform.
• Work with engineering and infrastructure teams to understand requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.
• Contribute to the design of automation solutions for problem management and preventative maintenance.
• Apply software engineering best practices across the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
• Troubleshoot issues across applications, Linux, infrastructure and storage environments.
• Work as part of a global engineering team and communicate technical solutions effectively with stakeholders.

Skills that will help you succeed

Essential

• Strong hands-on Python development experience.
• Experience developing production-grade applications, frameworks or automation solutions using Python.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles and SDLC best practices.
• Experience developing automation and deployment solutions.
• Good understanding of Object-Oriented Programming and software design principles.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience working with Linux/RHEL environments.
• Good understanding of APIs, system integration and automation concepts.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a global team.

Storage & Infrastructure Experience

Experience in one or more of the following would be highly beneficial:

• IBM Spectrum Scale/GPFS.
• Distributed or scale-out file systems.
• Enterprise storage environments.
• Storage automation and provisioning.
• Storage monitoring, alerting and capacity management.
• Storage virtualisation and software-defined storage.
• SAN, NAS, NFS or iSCSI technologies.
• Infrastructure patching and deployment automation.

Desirable

• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
• REST APIs and third-party system integration.
• SQL and database technologies.
• RHEL/Linux administration and troubleshooting.
• Container technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes or OpenShift.
• Cloud environments such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
• Knowledge of enterprise storage platforms such as NetApp, EMC, Brocade or similar technologies.
• Experience with Python-based infrastructure or platform automation.

What we are looking for

The ideal candidate will be a strong Python/software developer first, with experience working in infrastructure, storage or automation environments.

You do not need to be a specialist Storage Administrator. Experience or exposure to enterprise storage, particularly IBM Spectrum Scale/GPFS, would be highly advantageous, but the key requirement is the ability to design and develop robust Python-based automation solutions.
