Purchasing and Planning Manager

Location:Leeds - On Site Salary:DOE

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Purchasing Manager to lead and develop our Commercial Services office. This department includes purchasing, sales, transport, and general office administration, and you will play a central role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of all functions.

You will be responsible for managing supplier relationships, overseeing departmental performance, and ensuring business objectives are achieved. This role requires strong leadership, strategic decision-making, and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the purchasing and planning functions, ensuring business objectives are achieved and customer satisfaction is prioritised.
  • Monitor and manage stock levels and warehousing to ensure goods are available within required timescales while maintaining stockholding at budgeted levels.
  • Lead and support a small team within the commercial office
  • Utilise and develop forecasting and planning systems to align production and sales requirements and improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Oversee the sales and transport teams to ensure effective departmental performance.
  • Manage the supply chain to ensure timely availability of goods while minimising excess stock.
  • Maintain and develop quality systems, ensuring all necessary industry standards are consistently achieved.
  • Drive continuous improvement across departmental systems, processes, and procedures, collaborating with other departments where appropriate.

Requirements

  • Proven management experience in a commercial or purchasing environment, including supervisory duties.
  • Strong leadership and team-motivation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with confidence in both internal and external stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and make informed strategic decisions.
  • Experience in supplier management, including negotiation and performance monitoring.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining organisational efficiency.
  • Relevant qualifications in Business Administration/Procurement, or related disciplines are advantageous.
