Role Summary

As Purchasing Manager, you will be responsible for the site purchasing operations, including ethical sourcing and purchasing processes, while adhering to WMFTS's sustainability and One Planet agendas. You will collaborate with purchasing and supply chain colleagues within Watson Marlow and Spirax Group to deliver world-class supply chain and purchasing initiatives. You will report to the WMFTS Global Purchasing Manager.

What you'll be doing
  • Manage and support your team through effective leadership, including welfare, roles & responsibilities, objectives, and regular meetings and coaching.
  • Negotiate contracts with suppliers and analyze purchasing data and trends to optimize costs for materials and services.
  • Drive continuous improvement in key processes and systems, focusing on added value and waste reduction, initially through manual routines and then digital tools.
  • Work with Group Purchasing to develop and align purchasing strategies, measuring performance through KPIs.
  • Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring best practices in purchasing.
  • Maintain up-to-date supplier system parameters, including lead times, MOQs, and pricing, and provide costing data for annual cost reviews.
  • Ensure purchasing processes comply with legal standards and internal policies, including anti-bribery and sustainability requirements.
  • Promote innovation and automation in purchasing and supply chain processes, utilizing data analytics and root cause analysis tools.
  • Support the wider Supply Chain team to enhance departmental performance through collaboration and alignment of objectives.
  • Oversee second sourcing strategies across products supported by the US-based manufacturing facility in Devens.
Skills/Experience
  • Experience in purchasing within manufacturing, especially process industries, automotive, medical devices, aerospace, or consumer electronics is highly advantageous.
  • Proven negotiating skills and experience analyzing purchasing data to optimize costs.
  • Qualification in Supply Chain, Business Management, or equivalent, or relevant experience.
  • Strong ERP system experience.
  • Experience managing teams through change.
  • Effective relationship management with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Total Cost of Ownership models and importation processes, including taxes and duties.
  • APICs or CIPS qualification is advantageous but not essential.
