Pupil Support Officer

St Augustine's RC High School

Salary: £30,188 - £34,452 (pro-rata for part time and sessional)
Hours: 18 per week, 39 week sessional

The school is a Catholic secondary school of approximately 1030 students situated in the west of the City of Edinburgh. Its catchment area encompasses five Catholic primary schools extending from South Queensferry in the north to Balerno in the south. However, as a result of parental choice, our current S1 contains students drawn from 31 primaries.

St Augustine's stresses the importance of high levels of achievement for every student and there is a strong sense of community within the school. All staff of St Augustine's, teaching and non teaching, are prepared to make a positive contribution to the school as a whole and to play their part as members of the St Augustine's community.

Responsibilities
  • Promote better relationships, better learning and better behaviour through liaising and promoting understanding between school, children, young people and families.
  • Support the development of positive relationships and emotional wellbeing of children and young people using evidence based interventions with individual learners and groups.
  • Build links with families to promote participation in their children's learning and remove barriers to their and their children's involvement in school life.
  • Effectively link families with, and support their attendance at, local authority evidence based parenting groups.
  • Make links with relevant organisations in the community to develop networks of support and opportunity to complement school based and partner services and agencies support.
Requirements

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required and must be provided. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
