We are excited to be hiring a Public Health Lead for PSHE, Wellbeing & Surrey Healthy Schools to join the Surrey Healthy Schools team.

We support hybrid working with the right balance. We come together in person for 2 days per week on average (40% of the working week) and support working from home the rest of the time. The role will require travel across the County.

Surrey Healthy Schools is Surrey County Council's comprehensive approach to connecting guidance and support for children and young people across a wide range of services and partners. The role combines face-to-face interaction, advisory duties, and project-based work, requiring flexibility to work in a hybrid manner across Surrey.
You'll be joining a small, dynamic, and passionate team with a broad reach. As part of the Children, Families, and Lifelong Learning directorate, your work will apply Public Health and evidence-based methods across all directorates that impact children and young people. The Surrey Healthy Schools culture is crucial in promoting a whole-system approach to achieving Surrey's 2030 Vision for its residents and colleagues.
About the Role
In this role, you will play a key part in strengthening and developing the Surrey Healthy Schools approach by working with a diverse range of partners, services, third-sector organisations, and schools. You will support the PSHE, Wellbeing, and Surrey Healthy Schools Lead in embedding exemplary practices throughout Surrey's systems.
Your responsibilities will include ensuring the effectiveness of quality assurance processes, overseeing the Surrey Healthy Schools Self Evaluation Tool, and providing cluster support for schools. You will also work closely with schools to develop case studies of best practices, promote evidence based methods, develop guidance, and identify training needs. Additionally, you will support and deliver training sessions.
The role involves a mix of remote, office, school, and on site work across the county, with occasional evening work as required.
Shortlisting Criteria
- Degree-level qualification (or higher) with Qualified Teacher Status (or equivalent).
- Proven experience in teaching, learning, leadership and management in primary, secondary or specialist phases, with expertise in public health/health related areas such as PSHE, Healthy Schools, behaviour, spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC)development, equalities, inclusion, pastoral care, restorative approaches, emotional literacy, additional needs and/or mental health and emotional wellbeing.
- Strong understanding of effective teaching practices, the importance of meeting pupil needs, and whole school approaches to behaviour, inclusion, and values, with the ability to lead staff training.
- Thorough knowledge of the PSHE curriculum, including new statutory elements and effective safeguarding practices, and how they impact the school environment, strategy, and development planning.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present and write reports effectively, manage projects across various services, and demonstrate flexibility and dynamism.
- Confidence in making decisions based on evidence based practices, with an understanding of a Public Health approach to universal prevention.
- Competent IT skills and a willingness to learn and use various software systems.
- Willingness and ability to travel across Surrey in accordance with the demands of the work and job profile.
