Public Cloud Engineer

Overview

Purpose of the role: to build and maintain infrastructure platforms and products that support applications and data systems, using hardware, software, networks, and cloud computing platforms as required with the aim of ensuring reliability, scalability, and security. Ensure the reliability, availability, and scalability of the systems, platforms, and technology through software engineering techniques, automation, and best practices in incident response.

Responsibilities

• Build Engineering: Develop, deliver, and maintain high-quality infrastructure solutions to meet business requirements with measurable reliability, performance, availability, and ease of use. Identify appropriate technologies and solutions to meet business needs, optimization, and resourcing requirements.
• Incident Management: Monitor IT infrastructure and system performance to identify, address, and resolve issues, vulnerabilities, or outages. Use data to drive down mean time to resolution.
• Automation: Develop and implement automated tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention, utilising scripting and coding disciplines.
• Security: Implement secure configurations and measures to protect infrastructure against cyber-attacks, vulnerabilities, and other threats, including protection of hardware, software, and data from unauthorised access.
• Teamwork: Collaborate with product managers, architects, and other engineers to define IT infrastructure requirements, devise solutions, and ensure alignment with business objectives via a data-driven approach.
• Learning: Stay informed of industry technology trends and participate in the organization's technology communities to foster technical excellence and growth.
• Leadership expectations (if applicable): contribute to strategy, manage resources and policies, deliver continuous improvements, and escalate breaches of policies. Lead and coach team members, define roles, and guide multi-year initiatives. Qualifications and Skills

• Highly developed Python development capability with practical experience in AWS as a primary cloud platform, including IAM, CloudFormation, and Service Catalog; solid understanding of Agile methodologies; experience with Git, relational databases, and RESTful APIs.
• Ability to design, build, and operate cloud services at scale, including networking, identity and access management, monitoring, resource optimization, and security; experience with Infrastructure as Code using CloudFormation or Terraform.
• Experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitLab and Python; ability to support and guide team members and promote engineering and delivery best practices.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP; knowledge of public cloud security best practices.
• Experience with multi-cloud environments and Kubernetes orchestration, focusing on security, availability, and performance.
• Knowledge of automated testing approaches (BDD, TDD, or unit testing) and practical understanding of CI/CD concepts and Agile delivery.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and stakeholder management skills; ability to work across teams to deliver business-aligned solutions.
