PSV Mechanic

We are seeking a skilled and experienced PSV Mechanic to join our engineering team at Arriva London North Limited. The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of our diverse fleet of Public Service Vehicles, ensuring their safe and reliable operation in line with company standards and regulatory requirements.
Job Responsibilities- Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and servicing on a variety of PSVs, including buses and coaches, according to scheduled maintenance plans and industry best practices.
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults using diagnostic equipment, technical manuals, and schematic diagrams.
- Conduct repairs and replacements of various vehicle components, including engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering systems, suspension, and electrical systems.
- Carry out pre-MOT inspections and prepare vehicles for annual roadworthiness tests, ensuring compliance with DVSA standards.
- Document all work performed, including parts used, time taken, and any identified defects, accurately and efficiently using company systems.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations and company policies, ensuring a safe working environment for themselves and colleagues.
- Participate in breakdown recovery and roadside assistance when required.
- Maintain a clean and organised workshop environment.
- Continuously develop technical knowledge and skills through training and staying updated with industry advancements.
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (or similar relevant qualification).
- Proven experience as a PSV Mechanic, ideally within a bus or coach operating environment.
- Valid UK Driving Licence, ideally with Category D (PCV) entitlement, or willingness to obtain it.
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding abilities across a range of vehicle systems.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Excellent understanding of health and safety regulations relevant to vehicle maintenance.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, as required by operational needs.
