Job Description

A well-established and highly regarded regional law firm is looking to appoint a Property Litigation Solicitor to join its growing disputes team in Chesterfield.

This is an excellent opportunity for a solicitor with experience in property disputes to join a successful and collaborative practice, working on a broad range of contentious property matters for both individuals and businesses.

The role offers the opportunity to take ownership of your own caseload while working alongside experienced lawyers on more complex matters. You'll be joining a firm with a strong reputation in the region, where there is genuine scope for long-term career development and progression.

The Opportunity

You'll handle a varied caseload of property litigation matters from initial instruction through to resolution, advising clients on disputes relating to land, property ownership, occupation and contractual issues.

The role will involve working closely with clients to understand their objectives and provide practical, commercially focused advice, while also collaborating with colleagues across the wider property and litigation teams.

There will be opportunities to develop your technical expertise, take increasing responsibility for your own matters and become an integral part of the continued growth of the disputes practice.

Typical Matters

Your caseload is likely to include:

  • Land and property ownership disputes.
  • Boundary and adverse possession claims.
  • Landlord and tenant disputes.
  • Lease and tenancy disputes.
  • Dilapidations and property-related contractual disputes.
  • Easements, restrictive covenants and rights of way.
  • TOLATA and beneficial ownership disputes.
  • Possession and injunction proceedings.
  • Commercial property disputes.
  • Professional negligence and other claims arising from property transactions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Managing a varied property litigation caseload with appropriate levels of autonomy.
  • Advising individuals, businesses, landlords, tenants, developers and other property professionals.
  • Drafting pleadings, witness statements, correspondence and court documentation.
  • Developing case strategies and proactively progressing matters.
  • Conducting negotiations and advising on settlement and alternative dispute resolution.
  • Representing clients throughout the litigation process where appropriate.
  • Working closely with colleagues across the wider firm to provide a joined-up service.
  • Building strong, long-term client relationships through clear and commercially focused advice.
  • Maintaining accurate case management records and ensuring compliance with procedural and regulatory requirements.
  • Contributing to the continued development and success of the property disputes team.
About You

The successful candidate will be a qualified Solicitor in England & Wales with experience in property litigation or a closely related disputes practice.

You'll ideally have:

  • Experience managing a property litigation caseload.
  • Strong knowledge of contentious property matters and relevant civil procedure.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation and analytical skills.
  • The ability to provide clear, practical and commercially minded legal advice.
  • Strong client relationship and communication skills.
  • Excellent organisation and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • A proactive approach to case management and business development.
  • The confidence to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider team.
  • A genuine interest in developing a long-term career within property litigation.
