AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. Amazon Construction Project Managers (CPMs) are at the forefront of the construction industry in terms of innovation and focus on delivering the most innovative products to our customers. Our data centers are industry-leading in energy efficiency and cost effectiveness. The Data Center CPM is responsible for day-to-day construction oversight and management of contractors and serves as a leader in construction management, building services, architectural, electrical, or mechanical engineering disciplines to deliver sophisticated electrical and mechanical systems.

Daily responsibilities cover the entire data center lifecycle construction: site feasibility, procurement of design teams and design review, daily construction oversight, and commissioning of completed facilities.

Key job responsibilities
  • Project management and oversight of construction activities for new builds or general capital projects. This includes ownership of scope, timeline, and budgets.
  • Driving costs down and shortening schedules while maintaining quality.
  • Provide Construction Management for initiatives aimed at increasing the resiliency of data centers.
  • Review constructability of electrical and mechanical systems and building designs for new data centers or optimization of existing ones.
  • Create project scope and equipment requirements; assist with requests for proposals and capital requests.
  • Total project quality including assisting with commissioning and integrated system testing and oversight of project execution.
  • Issue/Manage the Request for Information process during construction and coordinate construction administration with engineers.
  • Record and report key metrics to team members and management.
  • Concurrently manage multiple projects including new data center buildings and capital improvement projects at existing data centers.
  • Operational support of installed facilities including review of procedures, best practices, and maintenance initiatives.
  • Be a leader within the group and with internal and external teams supporting the data center.
  • Travel to data center sites for electrical and mechanical system audits, constructability reviews, startup testing, and full commissioning, as required.

Hold or be able to attain an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency clearance.

Basic Qualifications
  • 5+ years of work experience in design and construction management.
  • Experience in program management in mission-critical facilities.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting construction drawings for all disciplines.
  • Experience in carrying new design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment/mass production.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience in Construction Management, Architecture, Structural, Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in mission-critical projects (data centers, semiconductors, hospitals, oil and gas).
  • Knowledge of Australian building codes and regulations including Fire Codes, Building Codes, Energy Efficiency Codes, Sanitary Codes and Safety Codes.
  • Vendor and contractor/subcontractor negotiation and management skills for construction and project execution.
  • Experience in mechanical and electrical systems.
