Senior Project Manager, Initial 6-12m Contract, possible temp to perm, Cambridgeshire

Your new company
Our client is seeking a highly capable and practical Senior Project Manager to lead and deliver a portfolio of capital projects ranging from £500K to £20M+. This is a strategic yet hands-on role, ideal for someone with strong FM/construction project management experience and a proven track record of client-side delivery.
The successful candidate will oversee both long-term development aligned with a major strategic plan and immediate short-term projects requiring urgent attention. This includes new sustainable builds, refurbishment of heritage assets, and compliance upgrades.
Your new role
Initial 6 Months: Immediate project management support is required for a series of short-term works. These include:

  • Fire Door Redevelopment & Refurbishment - £400K
  • Summer Works Programme - £100K
  • External Redecoration Programme - £150K
  • Fire Alarm Upgrade Programme - £320K

This phase will involve tendering, contractor management, budget control, and extensive client-side liaison. Candidates with less than 10 years' experience will be considered if they demonstrate strong practical competence, resilience, and excellent organisational and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the delivery of medium and large-scale capital projects from inception to completion.
  • Develop project specifications, ensuring clarity on scope, quality, cost, and environmental impact.
  • Manage project timelines and budgets, ensuring delivery on time and within financial parameters.
  • Oversee contractor selection, appointment, and performance management.
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and building standards.
  • Maintain accurate project records and provide regular progress reports.Develop and implement standardised project governance and methodology

What you'll need to succeed

  • Proven experience managing capital projects across all RIBA stages.
  • Strong FM/construction background with client-side project management experience.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Project, Excel, Word.
  • PRINCE2 qualified or equivalent.
  • Degree in a relevant construction, FM or property discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Self-starting, resilient, and highly organised.

What you'll get in return
This is an initial 6-12 month contract with the possibility of converting into a permanent role. You'll receive a day rate of up to £450 per day inside of IR35, across a 37 hour working week.
