Project Manager - Bus Infrastructure

We are recruiting on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council for a Transport Strategy Project Manager to support the Transport Strategy Manager in delivering a programme of local bus infrastructure schemes. These schemes are part of the Department for Transport's Bus Settlement Fund for 2025/26 onwards, with a value of circa £1.3m per annum, aligned with the Isle of Wight Bus Service Improvement and Delivery Plans.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, developing, and delivering bus infrastructure projects in line with strategic objectives.
• Manage a portfolio of work packages, applying robust project management principles.
• Develop and maintain communication channels for internal and external stakeholders.
• Engage with and manage relationships with multiple stakeholders, balancing competing priorities.
• Monitor project progress, prepare reports, and highlight risks or issues to the Transport Strategy Manager.
• Ensure compliance with council policies, legislation, and Department for Transport requirements.
• Support evaluation of project outcomes and contribute to continuous improvement.

About You - Essential Requirements

• Experience in project management, ideally in transport, infrastructure, or public sector programmes.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners.
• Knowledge of local transport planning, bus services, or public transport policy desirable.
• Proficient in project management tools and reporting processes.

Desirable

• Formal project management qualification (PRINCE2, APM, or equivalent).
• Experience in community engagement or public consultation processes.
• Understanding of government transport funding mechanisms, including the Bus Settlement Fund.
