Our Rail client is looking for an experienced Project Engineer, ideally from a rail background, to join their team on a contract basis.
The Project Engineer is responsible for undertaking tasks to assist with the delivery of engineering packages on projects and ensuring that work meets the appropriate standards and requirements to deliver on time and to budget. On small projects the APE may fulfill duties detailed within RA-ENG-PRO-003 'Project Engineering Management Process'.
Responsibilities- Support the Project Manager and management team to monitor the progress of works and ensure that the development, design, construction, testing and financial targets are met and remedial action is taken where required.
- Ensure that the technical standards are maintained in all aspects of signalling project work, so that safe and successful project implementation and future reliability are achieved.
- Participate in and monitor the planning and progress of works in relation to timeline and budget and ensure that the development, design, construction and testing requirements are met and remedial action is taken when required.
- Be the Project Manager's engineering representative on projects where required.
- Assist with forecasting the overall engineering resources and key skills necessary for allocated projects in sufficient time to ensure they can be provided.
- Assist with evaluating the quality and technical accuracy of tenders and make recommendations to obtain the best available commercial award for the Company. Discharge safety responsibilities in relation to CDM Regulations, Health and Safety legislation, Company procedures including development of the project Safety Plan. Maintain a continuous communication with contractors and customers in the development and implementation of projects to ensure a uniformity of purpose and common targets.
- Coordinate the engineering activities of sub-contractors.
- Review and assess the engineering aspects of project changes.
- Perform duties as directed by senior management from time to time.
- Complete mandatory training courses as defined by the business.
- Develop professional ability through Continuous Professional Development (CPD), support others in the business to do the same, participate in a culture of learning and improvement.
- Demonstrate engineering excellence through innovative thinking and a willingness to adopt new processes, tools and methods of working, as part of the Siemens LEAN approach.
- Knowledge or experience of safe working on the railway.
- Awareness of Network Rail standards and design approvals process.
Project Engineers (PE) are allocated as required to support the PEM in the delivery of the project. PEs may be appointed where there is a need for specialist knowledge, or to spread the project engineering workload.
The PE may be assigned 'Work Package Manager' responsibility by the PEM for the delivery of a package of work to the required standards and within the agreed timescales.
The Project Manager may also delegate budgetary responsibilities for these packages of work whilst retaining accountability.
Nominal activitiesNominal activities include and are not limited to:-
- Assisting with the planning of Engineering works, production and submission of Racecards, Lookaheads and SWP applications where required.
- Compilation of H&S File requirements for the projects.
- Compilation of asset trackers and documentation trackers that support the project needs.
- Attendance and input to project meetings as required/requested.
- Management of integrations of small packages of works within the project allocated.
- Support the PEM & /or the CEM where required and as directed.
- Act as WPM for elements of the deliverables detailed and assigned within the project program.
- Integration between other disciplines where required to support the elements of works assigned.

- Appreciation of Design, Construction, Testing and Possession Planning.
- Hold a IRSE Assistant Designer / Test Licence
- Working towards IRSE Licence 7.8.110F and attain within 3 years
- Maintain IRSE Logbook and meet the criteria set out by the business and the IRSE.
- Hold Valid ATW.
- Hold SWL/COSS Competence
- Will have a full UK driving license or be in the process of obtaining it (essential)
