Project Engineer

Description: A project engineer would be technically responsible for a civil engineering project with a turnover of £30 million per year. They would manage and supervise between 2 and 4 senior engineers.

Key Responsibilities & Objectives

1. Safety, Health, Environment & Sustainability
2. Ensure all site operations are controlled by safe systems of work defined within approved method statements, risk assessments, task sheets, and procedures.
3. Implement project environmental procedures to satisfy contractual obligations and third-party consents and approvals.
4. Dimensional/Spatial Control
5. Assist senior engineers with dimensional/spatial control tasks as per their role.
6. Workmanship, Quality, Inspection & Testing
7. Assist senior engineers with quality, inspection, and testing activities.
8. Information, Change Control & Records
9. Implement design change systems such as RDC and SI.
10. Review and approve subcontractor drawings and information.
11. Ensure use of company standard procedures and technical information.
12. Facilitate procurement and construction through proper information management.
13. Ensure contractor-designed elements are approved by the main design consultant and follow approval procedures like MAF.
14. Permanent Works Materials, Products, Plant & Systems
15. Establish systems for approval and testing of materials, products, plant, and systems.
16. Collaborate with procurement to ensure appropriate materials are purchased to avoid delays.
17. Implement wastage processes targeting costly items.
18. Construction Methods, Practices and Innovation
19. Assist senior engineers with construction methods and innovation.
20. Temporary Works/Systems & Cranes
21. Hold a valid Appointed Person card and perform related roles for complex lifts.
22. Prepare detailed design briefs and approve temporary works designs.
23. Act as Temporary Works Coordinator for complex temporary works projects.
24. Design Process, Coordination and Management
25. Utilize digital prototyping (3D and 4D) in design.
26. Collaborate with designers to ensure buildability and adherence to programme.
27. Check design outputs for clarity, achievability, and conformance.
28. Permanent & Temporary Works Design
29. Use engineering knowledge to inform decisions and suggest improvements in a construction environment.
30. Engineering Knowledge - Capture, Sharing & Using
31. Provide value engineering solutions.
32. Take responsibility for all technical aspects, incorporating innovations and feedback.
