About the role
As a Project Engineer, Fleet, you'll play a key role in the delivery of new rolling stock and the modernisation of our existing fleet. You'll support Rolling Stock & Delivery (R&D) initiatives, lead engineering investigations, and ensure compliance with technical specifications and safety standards.
This role offers a mix of office-based work, hands-on testing, and regular site visits - making it ideal for someone who thrives on variety and impact.
Key accountabilities include:
- Define project scope, engineering requirements, and deliverables.
- Develop specifications, work instructions, and testing plans.
- Review design submissions and propose engineering solutions.
- Coordinate with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEMs) and contractors during testing and delivery.
- Lead feasibility studies for fleet upgrades and system enhancements.
- Organise testing logistics, including Notice of Intent (NOIs) and rolling stock movements.
- Apply engineering intelligence to improve safety systems (e.g. door control).
- Support integration of new velocity teams and OEM collaboration.
About you
We're after a proactive and technically capable engineer who's ready to take ownership of their work and contribute to a high-performing team. You'll be someone who communicates clearly, works well across disciplines, and is excited by the opportunity to shape the future of rail in Victoria.
Our ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Minimum 3 years' experience in rail or rolling stock engineering.
- Solid understanding of rolling stock systems and railway operations.
- Experience with technical specifications, testing, and design reviews.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
- Confident, curious, and solutions-focused with a drive to improve.
- Valid driver's licence (highly regarded).
- Open to regular off-site travel.
