Teesside University have engaged Veredus to support recruitment for this role.

Teesside University is a bold, ambitious, and globally engaged institution, deeply rooted in its region and driven by a mission to transform lives and economies. We are proud of our impact locally, nationally, and internationally, and of our reputation for excellence in teaching, research, and enterprise. Our vision is clear: to harness the power of education, innovation and partnership to create opportunity and deliver impact that matters.

Building on Teesside University's established strengths in healthcare education, we are taking forward plans to establish a new Teesside University Medical School. This is a major strategic priority for the University, driven by a commitment to widen access to medical education and help address the health and workforce needs of the Tees Valley and wider region. Subject to General Medical Council approval, we plan to welcome our first cohort of medical students in September 2027.

We are now seeking an outstanding Programme Director to play a pivotal role in establishing and launching our new undergraduate medical programme and provide the academic and strategic leadership needed to take it through the next stages of development and GMC approval. Responsible to the Dean of the School of Health and Life Sciences and the Pro Vice-Chancellor Research and Knowledge Exchange, you will work with the developing Medical School team, colleagues across the University and NHS partners to shape the academic capability, infrastructure and partnerships required to deliver the first student intake and support the programme as it grows. You will lead across the full breadth of the programme, including curriculum design and delivery, assessment, quality assurance, admissions, student experience and the development of clinical education and placements.

You will be an accomplished and credible leader with substantial experience of undergraduate medical education and a strong track record of programme leadership. You will bring a detailed understanding of curriculum design and delivery, assessment, quality assurance and GMC standards, together with the ability to build a constructive and effective relationship with the regulator. You will excel at developing strong and collaborative relationships with healthcare partners, clinical educators and key external stakeholders, and bring the leadership, judgement and strategic vision needed to create a high-quality, innovative and patient-centred medical programme. You will also be comfortable operating in an evolving environment, providing clear leadership while working collaboratively with colleagues to develop the team and capability required as the Medical School grows. A medical qualification with GMC registration would be advantageous but is not essential.

The closing date for applications is 5pm on Friday, 18th September 2026.
