Job Description

Job title: Programme Director (Gosport Routes)

Salary: £41,977 - £45,913 per annum (depending on skills, qualification and experience)

Contract type: Fixed term for 3 years

Location: Community based across Gosport with travel across South East Hampshire

Reporting to: CEO/Gosport Routes consortium

Purpose of the job:

The Programme Director will be responsible for bringing the Gosport Routes vision to life, leading the delivery of a large-scale, community led cultural programme that places people, place and youth voices at its heart.

Working with a strong local consortium, communities and artists, the role will ensure high-quality, inclusive delivery that builds confidence, connectivity and cultural participation across the borough.

The Programme Director will steward learning, partnerships and legacy, placing Gosport as a distinctive destination for culture now and for future generations.

What is the role?

The Programme Director will be the creative lead for Gosport Routes, a three-year Creative People and Places programme funded by the Arts Council England. This is an exceptional opportunity to shape a cultural movement that will transform access to arts and creativity for the community of Gosport. Consortium members include Motiv8 South Ltd, Lighthouse Learning Trust, Community First, Hampshire Cultural Trust, Gosport Borough Council and Incredible Edible, Gosport.

Every day as Programme Director is about connecting people and turning ideas into cultural experiences that matter.

You might start your morning at a Departure Lounge, a local community hub, meeting members of the community and young people to plan an upcoming creative taster session. You will listen to their ideas, remove practical barriers and make sure the event feels welcoming and relevant, building positive relationships with all you come in contact with.

Later you're out in the community again, perhaps visiting a youth led zine workshop or a pop up performance in the park. You talk to families, hear what excites them and gather insights that will shape future commissions. Your role is to champion co creation, ensuring Gosport's communities feel ownership of the programme.

In between, you're curating artists proposals, planning ambitious short haul projects and checking in with your team on communications and engagement. You're always asking: How do we make this accessible? How do we make this feel like Gosport?

By evening you might attend a grassroots event, not as an observer, but as an advocate, celebrating creativity and building trust. Every day is a mix of listening, leading and inspiring, with one clear goal: making culture part of everyday life in Gosport.

What we are looking for:
  • Passion for supporting and empowering young people, community engagement and/or cultural development
  • Creativity and solution focused thinking
  • Respectful, honesty and integrity
  • Ability to be adaptive, approachable and flexible
  • High commitment to continuous professional practice and to continually look for ways to improve
  • Be able to learn from experiences
  • Be able to work collaboratively
  • Be able to build positive relationships

Motiv8 is committed to equal opportunities, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate for the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
