Department: Bowel Cancer Screening

Hours: 22.5 per week, rising to 37.5 per week once funding secured, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Bowel Cancer Screening centre as a Programme Administrator, supporting the early diagnosis and prevention of cancer across the county. The programme works across Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (MKUH) and Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (BHT). This post will be based out of Stoke Mandeville Hospital and/or Wycombe General Hospital, providing on site administrative support for the programme. This will include, but is not limited to, booking patients onto BHT systems, preparing letters and packs for patients, liaising with BHT Endoscopy, and working alongside clinical staff. There is an expectation that the successful post holder will be able to travel to MKUH sites as required.'We care We communicate We collaborate We contribute'

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be an experienced administrator, able to handle the demands of a busy NHS service. They will be self motivated and able to work independently, as well as in a team of clinical and non clinical staff. Strong communication skills and a commitment to providing quality patient care and experience are essential. This role is being advertised as 22.5 hours per week. However, the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme will be launching in the coming months, which will lead to an increase in demand. Therefore, we are in the process of obtaining additional funding to support our administrative function. Once this is secured, we will look to increase this to a full time position.

Job responsibilities

NHS Staff Survey: 94% feel that their role makes a difference to patience and service users.

Be responsible for setting up and preparing packs for positive assessment clinics on both the Bowel Cancer Screening System (BCSS) and local systems (eCARE/ CareFlow). Schedule assessment clinics across all sites. Respond to fluctuations in demand.

Person Specification Qualifications and knowledge
  • Minimum of 2 GCSE (or equivalent) at pass level including English and Maths.
  • Foundation degree or equivalent experience.
  • Comprehensive keyboard and computer skills.
  • Excellent excel, word and Power Point skills.
  • Knowledge of hospital databases (CareFlow/eCARE).
  • High standard of written English.
  • Knowledge of Bowel Cancer Screening System (BCSS).
Experience
  • Previous clerical/ office experience.
  • Experience in undertaking a range of secretarial duties.
  • Organising, attending and taking minutes/ notes at meetings.
  • Experience of working in a similar admin based, health care environment.
  • Familiar with Endoscopy terminology.
  • Knowledge of the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.
  • Ability to present high quality, well presented letters/ documents for approval/ amendment.
