Job Description
The Academy promotes interdisciplinarity, diversity, and cosmopolitanism. The degree programmes at ABK Stuttgart are characterised by artistic and experimental research approaches, as well as innovative and forward-looking thinking. At Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design, the position of Professorship for Art Education and Aesthetics (W2 pay grade) is to be filled as of 1 October 2026 (winter semester 2026/27). For this position, the Academy is looking for an individual with a national and international profile and network who combines a theoretical background in aesthetics with curatorial and/or educational and/or intervening-artistic practice. The professorship is assigned to the Department of Art and the Department of Art Studies and Aesthetics. Teaching is primarily aimed at students of liberal arts and artistic teacher education, but it is also open to all degree programmes across the Academy and has a transdisciplinary focus. In addition to teaching in undergraduate programmes, the professorship involves supervising doctoral students. Willingness to participate in higher education self-governance is a prerequisite. Requirements: Completed degree programme in art or another academic field; doctorate in the field of aesthetics orphilosophy of art Relevant work experience in the field of mediation and educational processes in the visual arts, withproof of corresponding experience in artistic and/or curatorial and/or art mediation practice Academic activity beyond the doctorate, demonstrated by relevant publications in the field and activeparticipation in conferences and symposia Very good knowledge of German Pedagogical aptitude, with proof of teaching experience in a higher education institution Desired skills: Very good knowledge of English, with the willingness to teach in English in addition to the main teachinglanguage, German Sensitivity to diversity and discrimination In its gender equality plan, Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design has committed itself to equal opportunities for women and men, as well as maintaining a balanced gender ratio among artistic and academic staff.
