Production Engineer or Technician
Join Our Team as a Production Engineer or Technician
Based in the Canton of Neuchâtel, Micro-Cameras & Space Exploration S.A. has been a trusted solutions provider in the field of instrumentation for space applications for over 20 years. Specializing in imaging systems, we have developed numerous space instruments in collaboration with international organizations such as ESA, NASA, CNES, and major space actors like Airbus Defense and Space, Thales Alenia Space and OHB. Our contributions have supported missions to the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, a comet nucleus (Rosetta), the International Space Station, and Earth observation.
We are now looking for a talented and motivated Production Engineer or Technician to join our team and contribute to our exciting projects.
Responsibilities
Project & Production Support
Collaborate with engineering, mechanical, firmware, and software teams to align production with technical specifications.
Participate in project reviews with clients, agencies, and suppliers, and manage configuration/documentation.
Use ERP systems for planning, priority management, and production KPI tracking.
Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve technical issues in production.
Ensure ESD, cleanroom, and workshop safety rules are upheld.
Contribute to specific electronic developments to support project and production needs.
Supply Chain & Procurement
Purchase and manage components (EEE, PCB, mechanical) and verify/update the footprint library.
Follow up with suppliers/subcontractors (PCB/PCBA assembly, critical component procurement).
Secure critical procurement and track lead times, costs, and risks in the supply chain.
Participate in subcontractor selection and evaluation.
Support supplier quality audits and resolve non-conformity issues.
Manufacturing & Assembly
Write, review, and update manufacturing procedures, test documentation, and project deliverables in alignment with PA/QA and DFM (Design for Manufacturing) plans.
Manage BOM (Bill of Materials).
Assemble, integrate, and test high-precision space instrumentation, imaging systems, and cameras.
Ensure traceability, configuration management, and documentation consistency (product/process).
Execute metrology, dimensional/electrical/optical measurements, and self-inspection to ensure quality.
Develop and optimize manufacturing processes, work instructions (gammes), and assembly procedures.
Participate in prototype and tooling fabrication, including 3D printing of mechanical parts.
Apply Lean methodologies and continuous improvement to production workflows.
Develop and maintain procedures supporting EN9100 quality management standards.
Ensure proper packaging of products for shipping and compliance with space industry standards.
Testing & Quality Control
Conduct incoming goods inspection and ensure quality control of materials.
Conduct electrical and environmental testing (EMC, TVAC, thermal, vibration) according to defined procedures.
Perform optical calibration, characterization, and MTF measurements.
Write and update test procedures, inspection protocols, and 8D reports for non-conformities.
Qualifications
Engineering or technical degree, or equivalent qualification in engineering, electronics, or a related field.
5-10 years of relevant experience in industry.
Familiarity with cleanroom environments, EN9100, ECSS/NASA/MIL/IPC standards, and handling of sensitive components.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
Fluency in English; knowledge of French is an asset.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills for interactions with suppliers, clients, and agencies.
