Job Description

Job Title: Product Lead

Role Summary:

We are seeking a strategic anduser-centred Product Lead to drive the vision, development, and continuousimprovement of a digital product with significant data, integration, andaccessibility requirements. The successful candidate will work closely withdesign, research, engineering, and delivery colleagues to ensure the productmeets the needs of its diverse user base while aligning with technicalfeasibility and organisational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

1. Product Vision and Roadmap

  • Define and own the end-to-end product strategy androadmap in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Translate complex user needs and organisationalgoals into a clear, iterative delivery plan.
  • Continuously refine the product vision based onresearch insights, feedback, technical constraints, and serviceobjectives.

2. Backlog Management andPrioritisation

  • Maintain a clear, transparent, and prioritisedproduct backlog with well-defined epics and user stories.
  • Facilitate sprint planning sessions, backloggrooming, and reviews to ensure alignment with delivery goals.
  • Use data, research, and stakeholder input toevaluate feature value and make prioritisation decisions.

3. Stakeholder Engagement andAlignment

  • Engage regularly with cross-sector stakeholders togather feedback, validate assumptions, and manage expectations.
  • Act as the primary point of contact forproduct-related decisions, balancing user needs, technical constraints,and business priorities.
  • Champion the voice of the user while working withina regulated, data-sensitive environment.
  • Collaborate closely with the Delivery Manager,Technical Architect, User Researcher, and Service Designer to ensurecoherent service design and efficient delivery.
  • Ensure technical feasibility and alignment ofproduct features with integration, accessibility, and performancerequirements.
  • Facilitate design and discovery workshops, andcontribute actively to agile ceremonies.

5. Continuous Improvement andService Evolution

  • Use qualitative and quantitative data to monitorproduct usage, satisfaction, and performance.
  • Identify areas for optimisation and manageiterative improvements throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Support the preparation of transition plans topublic/live service phases.

Essential Skills andExperience

  • Demonstrated experience in a Product Lead or SeniorProduct Manager role, ideally for a data-driven, user-facing digitalservice.
  • Experience working in Agile environments, withhands-on involvement in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and userstory writing.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with a trackrecord of aligning product development across diverse and sometimesconflicting priorities.
  • Deep understanding of user-centred designpractices, and ability to work effectively with researchers and designers.
  • Familiarity with accessibility, data quality, andservice assurance principles.
  • Proven ability to manage complex product ecosystemsinvolving integrations, user authentication, and structured dataworkflows.
  • Experience in regulated industries such ashealthcare, life sciences, or government digital services.
  • Understanding of metadata standards, productcatalogues, or supply chain/procurement information systems.
  • Exposure to platforms requiring role-based access,auditability, and compliance with data protection standards.
  • Experience coordinating with third-party dataproviders, APIs, or open data sources.

Preferred Certifications(Desirable, Not Mandatory)

  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), SAFe ProductManager/Product Owner, or equivalent.
  • Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900) or equivalentcloud knowledge certification.
Familiarity with Government Digital Service(GDS) standards or NHS Service Manual.
