Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations and you'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in the office - Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness

Salary: £50,100 - £75,100 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

We seek a Process Safety Engineer for our Asset Condition and Engineering Team to provide process safety support for asset decisions across transmission assets. This role works with engineering, integrity, monitoring, planning, and operations teams to apply process safety principles in design and investment, aligning with corporate standards from the central SHW function.

You will
  • Embed process safety and major accident hazard (MAH) considerations into asset lifecycle activities, providing input to asset design, modification, operation, decommissioning and Asset Lifecycle Plans.
  • Support the development and review of process safety bowties and risk assessments, helping identify credible hazards, prevention and mitigation controls, and demonstrate risks are managed ALARP.
  • Contribute to the identification and management of safety critical assets, tasks and barriers, working with Operations, Asset Engineering and Condition Monitoring teams to support appropriate monitoring and early indicators of barrier degradation.
  • Provide process safety input to engineering and operational decisions, including asset condition assessments, investment options and risk assessments for defective or degraded plant.
  • Support learning from process safety incidents, near misses and precursor events, translating insights into practical improvements to engineering practices, asset strategies and monitoring approaches.

This role does not own corporate policy, audit or regulatory reporting, but plays an important part in ensuring process safety is effectively applied at asset and engineering level.

You have
  • A degree in Engineering, or equivalent technical experience, with ongoing progress towards Chartered Engineer status or professional accreditation.
  • Sound understanding of process safety principles, major accident hazard risk, and the ability to apply risk based thinking to engineering and asset decisions.
  • Practical experience contributing to risk assessments, including Bowtie, HAZID, or HAZOP methodologies.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders across teams.
  • Ideally, experience in electricity transmission, utilities, or regulated infrastructure sectors, with exposure to safety critical asset management, barrier management, or condition monitoring.
