Principial Paediatric Audiologist

Due to internal promotion we are now seeking a passionate clinician to join our UKAS accredited team.

The department provides a comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitation for children, covering both secondary and tertiary care.

The postholder will be expected to support in maintaining IQIPS accreditation, by helping to implement QA processes and help with authoring and implementing protocols and SOPs.

Predominantly a clinical role, this will keep you busy with a full range of paediatric assessment and (re) habilitation challenges, together with some delegated service development and/or management responsibilities. This interesting specialist role will involve working with babies, children and families in our family-friendly multi-disciplinary centre.

You should be able to provide evidence based practice in a patient-centred way, and value supporting children and families through the wider patient journey. You will be confident working with children, both autonomously and as a flexible team-member. The role demands enhanced experience of working in paediatric audiology (in both behavioural and ideally electro-physiological assessment as well as re-habilitation)

Main duties of the job

To perform specialist diagnostic audiological procedures and provide a comprehensive specialist hearing aid service to children, including determining care plans for individual patients, and involving carers and families as appropriate.

To assist with the day-to day management of the London North West University Healthcare Paediatric Audiology service.

To take an active role in areas of clinical audit, research and clinical governance for the Audiology service, which may include designing and completing audits within own field, participating in data collection for larger projects, and contributing to the development of evidence based protocols.

To plan and prioritise elements of own workload, within the framework of service delivery priorities as defined by the Clinical Lead and Head of Service, and supervise the work of other members of the team as appropriate, including junior audiologists, trainees and students.

Job responsibilities

Assist the Head of Service and Clinical Lead to develop and adapt the service according to changing criteria and demographics.

Assist the Head of Service and Clinical Lead to manage changes in practice and establish new systems of working when necessary.

Act as a point of contact for more junior staff within the service.

Provide clinical supervision within specialist area(s)

Mentor and / or act as supervisor for trainee staff as required

In conjunction with the Head of Service and Clinical Lead be responsible for leading aspects of a sub-section of the service

Person Specification Education/Qualification

• MSc in Audiology or equivalent plus CAAC or STP
• BSc Audiology or BTEC qualification in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement & Successfully completed both parts of BAAT I and II (Or equivalent)
• Evidence of CPD
• Eligible/registered as a clinical scientist with HPC or on the voluntary register with RCCP
• Advanced courses in Audiology
• British Sign Language Qualifications
• Membership of BAA and/or BSA

Experience

• NHS experience within paediatric audiology, including behavioural and electrophysiological assessment and (re)habilitation.
• Working within the NHS Paedaitric Audiology Service
• Ability to independently perform ABR testing.

Knowledge

• Theoretical and practical knowledge of Paediatric Audiology
• Significant experience of working in an NHS setting or equivalent
• Advanced Audiological test techniques; including assessment of children with complex needs and complex ABR.
• An awareness of national Audiology and NHS developments.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Leadership and teaching skills
