The Role

Principal Officer (Acoustics) in the Public Protection and Licensing directorate. Champion the highest environmental standards for noise and air quality across development projects. Support residents and businesses by mitigating the impact of construction on communities.

• Undertake high profile and complex casework, acting as a reliable technical adviser within the team.
• Scrutinise acoustic reports and assess construction noise mitigation measures.
• Ensure compliance, resource allocation, and robust risk management.
• Translate Council objectives into effective plans in partnership with team leaders.
• Collaborate with colleagues at all levels of the Council and external stakeholders to deliver high value service.
• Provide best practice advice and keep up to date with new legislation, regulations and guidance.
• Supervise and mentor less experienced team members, guiding their professional development.

Qualifications and Experience

• Experienced professional with a degree or diploma in Environmental Health or a related discipline.
• Significant expertise in responding to complex, high profile, and political complaints in Environmental Health.
• Demonstrated ability to make effective decisions with awareness of reputational risk management.
• Proven track record of implementing and overseeing quality assurance processes and reporting frameworks.
• Strong communication skills, able to handle competing interests and challenging situations with tact.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a true team player.
