We are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join us in our office in Leeds or Cambridge. With hybrid working allowing for a combination of in office and home working, this role would suit an experienced Mechanical Engineer who wants to take their next step in their career within an industry leading consultancy by working on exciting projects in the water sector.

Responsibilities- Be involved in the whole project life cycle from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design and construction support including site surveys and investigations.
- Work and liaise with project managers, technical leaders, design engineers, clients, supply chain partners, contractors, planners, and other stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for the projects and community.
- Manage and guide more junior team members and support their development.
- Experienced Mechanical Engineer, ideally chartered with the IMechE, with experience in mechanical design and ideally pump station optioneering, design, construction management, and commissioning.
- Experience producing and reviewing technical outputs such as technical specifications and reports, sizing and designing pumping systems and water systems, schedules; familiar with collaborative planning reviews and designs of solutions, and providing construction and commissioning services.
- Ability to provide engineering input to design outputs in collaboration with other disciplines (General Arrangement Drawings, 3D models, Control Philosophies, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams).
- Strong communication skills and ability to deliver technical presentations to clients and other design engineers, participate in collaborative design discussions, including technical workshops and safety reviews (HAZOPs and ALMs).
- Technical leadership to the Flood and Coastal Mechanical team and support for the development of junior engineers.
- Understanding of how lowland drainage pumping stations operate and experience assessing existing site infrastructure to develop and deliver the mechanical design; awareness of the Eel Regulations 2009 and their implications on flood and coastal pumping stations.
- Experience in the energy, infrastructure & water sectors in a mechanical engineering capacity is desirable.
