Job Description

We are looking to strengthen our engineering team with a Principal Civil Engineer based at Maple Lodge with hybrid working available.

You will report directly to the RDL, and your role will be to provide superior quality Engineering Design services to minimize risks and maximize profits on turnkey and engineering services contracts. You will coordinate the design and produce design documents and drawings, considering health and safety requirements, specifications, and standards related to the contract.

Key responsibilities will include:

  1. Produce cost-effective design layouts that meet specifications and are feasible for construction and commissioning, considering all associated costs including design time, materials, erection, and impacts on other disciplines.
  2. Utilize standard practices whenever possible, maintain competitiveness, and provide estimates and feedback to the Proposals department.
  3. Follow procedures and processes to ensure the department's ongoing development.
  4. Assist in developing, monitoring, and updating procedures to facilitate smooth departmental operations.
  5. Coordinate designs with all disciplines internal and external to MWHT to ensure integrated contract execution.
  6. Maintain files and records throughout the contract duration.
  7. Ensure customer satisfaction by fostering a culture that values client benefits, including end users and internal departments.
  8. Maintain a personal development plan.
  9. Assist in supervising and developing staff and ensuring a safe working environment.
  10. Minimize waste from departmental activities.
  11. Design with environmental considerations and health and safety requirements in mind.

Essential qualifications and experience:

  • Understanding of water and sewage treatment principles.
  • Experience in managing/mentoring staff in relevant discipline design aspects.
  • Membership of a professional institution, chartered or nearing chartership.
  • Preferably a Civil Engineering degree.
  • Minimum: Civil Engineering HND.
  • Ability to rationalize designs and produce economical plant layouts.
  • Good knowledge of water treatment aspects, including mechanical, process, electrical engineering, and project management.
  • Flexible mindset capable of handling large data sets.
  • Ability to present technical proposals clearly and convincingly.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Driving license.

Desirable qualifications:

  • Working towards Chartered Engineer status.
  • Relevant Engineering Master's Degree.
