If you're a graduate looking to build school-based experience before teacher training or a long-term career in education, this Primary Graduate Teaching Assistant role gives you a strong starting point. You'll support pupils across KS1 and KS2 with targeted catch up, confidence building work, helping them stay on track with reading, writing and maths while learning how a strong primary classroom runs day to day.
The Role- Provide 1:1 and small group academic support in reading, writing and maths
- Deliver structured interventions (phonics, reading fluency, spelling, number facts) linked to class learning
- Pre teach key vocabulary and concepts so pupils can access lessons with confidence
- Model clear explanations and use simple scaffolds to help pupils work independently
- Support pupils who need extra focus, organisation and reassurance during lessons
- Track progress and share short, practical feedback with the class teacher
- Follow safeguarding and behaviour policies and report concerns immediately
- 2:2 degree or above in any subject (Education, Psychology, English, Maths or Childhood Studies ideal)
- GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C or above
- Warm, calm communication style and confidence working with primary aged pupils
- Reliable, proactive, and happy to take direction while using your initiative
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
