Learning Support Assistant (LSA) / Teaching Assistant

Salary: £100 per dayLocation: Rural Haywards HeathJob Type: Full time, Long Term Supply 8.40am to 3.55pm

We are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join our team, working directly with primary aged boys with social and emotional mental health issues (SEMH) within a special school. This role is integral to providing students with a supportive and effective learning environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to enhancing the autonomy, independence, personal development, and employability of all students.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the teacher with the curriculum delivery and support individual students or groups to achieve set targets.
  • Engage in planning, organisation, and delivery of educational and work-related experiences for students.
  • Share responsibility for the physical care of students and contribute to a safe learning environment.
  • Maintain accurate records of student achievement and progress.
  • Evaluate your practice and engage in professional development.
  • Manage classroom resources, and emphasise the display and presentation of students' work.
  • Work creatively and flexibly with students with special educational needs to promote their development.
  • Follow instructions and adhere to policy guidelines in all areas of work.
  • Communicate clearly with staff, students, parents, the local community, and outside agencies.
  • Contribute to the assessment, planning, and monitoring of individual learning programmes.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of the needs of students with SEMH and the National Curriculum.
  • Experience in planning and contributing to curriculum delivery.
  • Ability to work under direction and collaboratively with teaching staff.
  • Competence in continuous assessment and monitoring of student progress.
  • Strong communication skills for liaising with parents and the wider community.
  • Commitment to personal professional development.
  • Experience in managing and developing staff and resources.
  • Strategic leadership skills to contribute to service development.

Experience and Qualifications

  • GCSE grade A-C (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
