Part time, 21 hours per week. Salary: £12.90 per hour (£14,068.80 actual annual salary) plus NHS Pension.
About the roleYou'll be part of a close-knit prescription team, working closely with the Patient Services Manager, GPs, nurses and community pharmacies. This is a varied role combining administrative work with direct patient contact, supporting patients to get their medication safely, efficiently and on time.
Hours21 hours per week: Tuesday and Wednesday, 1pm to 6.30pm, and Friday full day, 8:00 6:30pm. There is also an expectation to cover Saturday mornings (8.30am to 12.30pm) roughly three to four times a year, paid at time and a half or taken as time and a third in lieu.
Day to day, you'll:- Handle prescription queries and repeat prescription requests by phone, in person and electronically
- Process requests from care homes and manage dedicated prescription phone lines
- Action prescribing changes as instructed, including contacting patients where needed
- Carry out clerical tasks such as updating patient details, EPS nominations and general admin
- Support cost effective prescribing and QOF compliance alongside the Clinical Pharmacist team
- Maintain accurate records in line with GDPR and information governance standards
- Help on the dispensary hatch, supporting patients collecting their prescriptions and checking their details before handing over medication
You'll be expected to work towards agreed targets and KPIs, including maintaining a low call wait time and completing and maintaining mandatory training.
What we're looking for- GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or above, or equivalent experience
- Experience in an NHS or similar customer service environment
- Strong administrative experience
- Good communication skills, with the ability to adapt your approach for different people
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to prioritise and manage competing demands on your time
- Previous experience as a Prescription Clerk isn't essential; we welcome applicants from backgrounds such as reception, clinical coding, secretarial work or patient coordination.
- Experience with EMIS, medicines management, or an NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services would be an advantage but is not required.
New starters are supported with shadowing during the early months, an induction plan, and a three month probation period. Ongoing quality checks are carried out by the Patient Services Manager to support your development.
