Practitioner Psychologist

Recruitment for a Practitioner Psychologist (Band 7) within NHS Children and Young People Gender Service (South West) (CYPGS SW). The role involves providing specialist assessments and evidence based psychological interventions to children, young people and families, with a focus on gender care.
Main Duties- Provide detailed holistic assessments of children and young people referred to the Gender Service.
- Deliver evidence based therapeutic interventions to children, young people and families under the care of the Gender Service.
- Offer assessment and brief intervention to children, young people and families referred from other children's specialities.
- Provide psychological services-including assessment, formulation and implementation of interventions-for children, young people, adults and their families.
- Deliver services in out patient and ward based settings as required.
- Offer psychological advice, consultation, training and support for other professionals.
- Undertake or support research and audit relevant to care pathways.
- Postgraduate qualification in clinical, counselling or health psychology, recognised for registration by the HCPC as Practitioner Psychologist.
- Current registration with HCPC.
- Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology.
- Experience working with children/young people with physical health conditions.
- Experience of consultation and service development work within a multi disciplinary physical health setting.
- Experience providing psychological consultation, case management, supervision and training to multi professional and multi agency teams.
- Formal teaching or presentation experience to health and other professionals.
- Knowledge of safeguarding legislation, consent, confidentiality and NICE guidance on psychological care for children and vulnerable adults.
- Experience of clinical work in a health care setting with individuals who have acute or long term medical conditions.
- Experience supporting populations with issues common to gender services.
- Consideration of the implications of acute and long term trajectories for children/young people presenting to gender services.
- Theoretical knowledge of psychopathology and evidence based treatment of mental health conditions common in young people with gender diversity.
- Experience supervising qualified clinical psychologists.
- Accredited supervision training.
- Experience working with children/young people in a paediatric service.
- Assess psychological needs using cognitive and developmental psychometric tests.
- Generate systemic and individual formulations and interventions based on complex information.
- Understand the psychological implications of engagement in care pathways for individuals and families.
- Understand the roles of a practitioner psychologist in relation to patients, families, staff teams and organisational systems.
- Prioritise and manage time when facing conflicting demands.
- Communicate complex psychological information to young people, adults and staff in a culturally appropriate and sensitive manner.
- Accurately record and manage information and data in clinical notes, databases and electronic records.
- Acknowledge potential work related stress and implement management strategies.
- Work effectively within a multi disciplinary team and contribute to team functioning.
- Travel to regional clinics, meetings and community visits as required.
- Proficiency in administering psychometric and neuropsychological tests.
