Practitioner Psychologist

We are seeking a Clinical Psychologist or other accredited psychological professional as a key provider of evidence-based psychological assessment and interventions for parents, infants and staff on the neonatal units at Epsom and St Helier Hospital.

The role includes providing highly specialist psychological assessment and intervention with families within the neonatal unit and paediatric inpatients, offering advice and consultation on psychological aspects of care to other health professionals and supporting clinical team members. The postholder will work autonomously, within recognised professional guidelines as part of the teams. The post holder will utilise knowledge of evidence based psychological interventions and research skills to implement audit, research and service development projects. The postholder will be involved in the training and continuing professional development of clinical psychologists and other health professionals. The postholder will be part of the wider Paediatric Psychology Service and the Trust Clinical health psychology provision.

Please note that 0.45 of this post is dedicated to NNU at St Helier Hospital and the remaining 0.35FTE are to support an inpatient service at both QMCH and Epsom Hospital.

Main duties of the job
  • Assessment and intervention with families and infants within the neonatal units.
  • Provision of specialist psychological advice and consultation to multi-disciplinary teams - neonatal and paediatric inpatient.
  • Supporting and training neonatal staff teams.
  • Supervision of Assistant Psychologist/Trainee Psychologists.
  • Liaison with wider specialist services.
  • Service audit and evaluation.
  • Participation in wider neonatal network.

Person Specification Training and qualifications Essential
  • Doctoral level training in clinical psychology or its equivalent
  • HCPC registered
Desirable
  • Relevant post-doctoral training
Experience Essential
  • Post-qualification experience with at least 50 hours of clinical supervision as a clinical psychologist over a minimum of 18 months
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment across care settings (outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient, residential)
  • Experience of working with MDTs
  • Experience of service development and innovation
Desirable
  • Experience in paediatric/medical settings
  • Experience of offering staff support
Knowledge and skills Essential
  • Strong communication skills to convey complex information to children, families and professionals
  • Skills in complex psychological assessment, intervention and management
  • Experience providing consultation to professional and non-professional groups
  • Experience addressing diversity within a multicultural framework
Desirable
  • Knowledge of specialised psychological approaches for issues in this setting (e.g., traumatic reactions, bereavements, medical settings)
