Job Description
Overview

This is a temporary role for a period of three months. The position is part of the production team at Elsing Lane Farm. The team consists of eight people working on a 6 days on, 2 days off shift pattern.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure that poultry have ready access to fresh water and a healthy diet.
  • Provide appropriate environmental conditions (ventilation and rest area).
  • Prevent pain, injury, or disease through proactive health and welfare practices.
  • Ensure birds have sufficient space, proper facilities, and company of their own kind.
  • Avoid mental suffering for the stock.
  • Observe all hygiene rules, including personal hygiene, hand washing, boot dipping/changing, and wearing protective clothing.
  • Strictly adhere to all bio security rules.
  • Keep floor eggs to a minimum by training birds to use nest boxes.
  • Collect and record egg collections accurately.
  • Weigh food accurately.
  • Maintain house hygiene: dusting, light fitment cleaning, sweeping, friable litter, and clean boot dips.
  • Keep nest boxes clean and in working order.
  • Maintain accurate record keeping of house temperature, mortality, and egg collections.
  • Keep the farm clean and tidy.
  • Adhere to all Farm Health and Safety rules and procedures.

  • No prior poultry experience required.

  • £13.87 per hour (annual equivalent £33,000).

Working Hours

The farm operates on a 6 days on, 2 days off shift pattern. Working hours start around 07:00 and finish around 15:30, with occasional extension if required.

Additional Information
  • Strict bio security required; all visitors must follow security procedures.
  • Farm clothing provided on site.
  • Mobile phones and jewellery are not allowed on the farm; items can be left during break times.
  • Candidates must not own any avian species at home.
  • Relocation assistance is not available.
