Job Description
Job Summary

We are looking for a compassionate and driven individual to join our team as a Porter. The role involves supporting the delivery of hospital operations by transporting patients, moving equipment, and providing essential support services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Transport patients safely and compassionately around the site using beds, wheelchairs, or trolleys.
  • Move equipment and furniture between wards to ensure smooth operations.
  • Collect and deliver essential supplies and samples to support patient care.
  • Perform postal service and messenger duties to maintain communication across departments.
  • Collect and dispose of waste to maintain a clean, safe environment.
  • Respond to emergency situations calmly and efficiently.
  • Communicate effectively, answer telephones courteously, and provide messages quickly and accurately.
  • Work as part of a supportive team following the roster set by the Site Portering Supervisor.
  • Work up to 37.5 hours per week on a rota shift pattern that includes nights and weekends, with pay enhancements for unsociable hours.
Recruitment Requirements
  • Pass a Maths and English assessment.
Qualifications

No formal qualifications are required; full training will be provided.

  • Good level of education and clear understanding of English Language and literature is desirable.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Awareness of health and safety when moving patients and equipment.
Experience
  • Previous portering experience or service industry experience.
  • Good customer relationship skills.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
Special Requirements
  • Ability to move and lift heavy objects such as beds, wheelchairs, and meal trolleys.
  • Ability to adapt to service requirements and work under pressure.
  • Willingness to work a variety of shift patterns, including nights and weekends.
  • Must have the right to work in the UK for the full duration of the post.
  • Role is not eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Work using own initiative and within a multidisciplinary team.
