DescriptionTo contribute to achieving excellence in teaching and learning through innovative practice. You will be expected to create effective and stimulating learning opportunities for all students through high quality teaching, learning and assessment. Enthuse students by making the subject content relevant and current with a strong link to employers and the local economy. You will be required to monitor each student's academic performance and provide feedback for improvements, supervise, and motivate students to achieve their academic and personal goals. We offer A Level Politics and Economics at the Clarence Street Campus. Applications from ECTs are welcomed.
Responsible to: Dean of Academic Studies
Key Responsibilities- To contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of College life.
- To contribute to the College and curriculum area strategic objectives and to actively engage in the annual review.
- To be aware of national developments in subject area and update knowledge and skills on an annual basis.
- To plan, prepare and deliver high quality lessons to achieve effective management of the learning process.
- Plan and use a range of effective and appropriate teaching and learning techniques to engage and motivate students and encourage independence and student autonomy.
- Establish a purposeful and motivating learning environment where students feel safe, secure, confident and valued.
- Establish and maintain procedures with students which promote and maintain appropriate behaviour, communication and respect for others, while challenging discriminatory behaviour and attitudes.
- To set, mark and record work in accordance with College and School Assessment policies.
- To track all students' progress and attendance in accordance with agreed College systems and policies.
- To provide a balance of appropriate teaching styles and learning experiences.
- To be aware of external/internal assessment procedures and to play an appropriate part in their implementation.
- Evaluate and improve own communication skills to maximise effective communication and overcome barriers.
- To liaise with Assistant Dean in contributing to the design of programmes and teaching approaches which will enable curriculum areas to achieve high standards and value added.
- To liaise with Assistant Dean and curriculum teams in contributing to the administration necessary to support the teaching, learning and assessment within the subject area.
- To work with colleagues with relevant expertise to identify and address additional Digital, English and Maths skills for development within the subject area.
- To review own professional development needs and to participate fully in future training and development.
- To communicate and consult with parents, carers and students including Parent's Evening, Welcome Evenings, events and open evenings.
- To ensure that all students in the subject area comply with College's policies and procedures.
- To provide enrichment opportunities that are exciting, motivating and enhance the student experience.
- To ensure learners are supported with a well prepared VLE and resources for independent study.
- A knowledge and appreciation of the different needs of learners and effective strategies to ensure all learners make progress.
- To contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College Group ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of College life.
- To take proactive responsibility for Health & Safety to ensure that a safe working environment and safe working practices are maintained at all times.
- To comply with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
- To support cross college actives as required in particular the key enrolment and invigilation periods.
- To understand roles and responsibilities around safeguarding all learners.
Essential:
- Educated to Level 6 e.g. Politics Degree or Economics related degree.
- A recognised Teaching qualification.
- Successful recent previous teaching experience with year olds.
- Excellent computer literacy - ability to use the current IT programs of the College.
- Proven relevant experience of curriculum planning, development & delivery in Business.
- Knowledge and understanding gained from previous experience in delivering the BTEC and/or A level specifications.
- Engaged and passionate about Continuing Professional Development.
- Minimum of Level 2 Literacy/Numeracy.
- High level of communication and interpersonal skills, an effective member of a team.
- Ability to set high standards for students, colleagues and for themselves.
- Strong understanding of the importance and impact of feedback on learner performance.
- Experience using ICT to support and enhance subject delivery.
- Outstanding teacher who is student centred.
Desirable:
- Experience and understanding of ALPS and value added as progress measures.
- Good understanding of curriculum development to meet the training needs of employers.
- Experience with BTEC verification and standardisation.
- Fluent speaking in any of the mentioned languages: Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, Kurdish Sorani, Tigrinya, Spanish, French or Portuguese.
