Job Description
About the role:

A welcoming and specialist SEND school in Horncastle is looking to appoint a dedicated PMLD Teacher to join a mixed age class on a full-time basis from September, with the potential to become a permanent position for the right candidate. The school provides tailored education and care for pupils with PMLD, creating a nurturing environment where every learner is supported to develop their communication, independence, sensory awareness, and life skills.

This is a rewarding opportunity for a compassionate and creative teacher who is passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of children with complex learning needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and deliver highly personalised learning programmes that meet the individual needs of pupils with PMLD.
  • Create engaging, sensory-rich learning experiences that support communication, interaction, and cognitive development.
  • Work closely with teaching assistants, therapists, and other professionals to provide a holistic approach to learning and care.
  • Adapt teaching strategies and resources to ensure all pupils can access and participate in learning.
  • Support pupils' physical, emotional, medical, and personal care needs in line with school policies and individual care plans.
  • Monitor, assess, and record pupil progress, celebrating small-step achievements and adapting provision where necessary.
  • Foster a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment that promotes wellbeing, independence, and confidence.
Pre-requisites:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Experience working with pupils with SEND, particularly those with PMLD, SLD, complex needs, or additional learning difficulties.
  • Understanding of sensory-based learning approaches and communication methods such as Makaton, PECS, or AAC systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and build positive relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues.
  • A patient, empathetic, and flexible approach with a genuine passion for supporting children with complex needs.
