Overview

Joining Griffiths Waite (GW) as a Platform Engineer offers an outstanding opportunity for professional growth and development.

At GW, we pride ourselves on strong engineering principles, forward-thinking use of AI, and a commitment to rapid, high-quality delivery - creating an ideal environment to sharpen your skills and grow your career.

We're looking for Platform Engineers who are enthusiastic, curious, and open to new ideas and perspectives. You should bring a strong desire to learn, a proactive mindset, and a positive, can-do attitude to everything you do.

About Us

Griffiths Waite is a forward-thinking software company that specialises in creating innovative solutions for enterprise clients. Our mission is to design intuitive, user-centric digital products that deliver exceptional value and lasting impact.

Our core values define who we are:

  • Brilliance - We move with purpose, innovate boldly, and simplify complexity to deliver high-impact results with clarity and speed.
  • Trust - We build lasting relationships through integrity, transparency, and a deep commitment to our clients' best interests.
  • Collaboration - We work together openly and supportively, believing that true success is a shared achievement.
  • Ownership - We take responsibility for what we deliver, stay solution-focused, and always follow through on our promises.

If these values resonate with you, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Be Doing as a Platform Engineer

As a Platform Engineer at Griffiths Waite, you'll play a key role in designing, building, and operating the platforms that our product and delivery teams rely on to ship secure, reliable software at pace.

You'll work closely with engineers across API, UI, Data, and QA to provide a robust, observable, and scalable foundation for our products.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, building, and maintaining cloud infrastructure for our products using Infrastructure as Code.
  • Owning and improving CI/CD pipeline templates so teams can safely release changes multiple times per day.
  • Implementing and improving observability: logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards, and alerts that help teams diagnose issues quickly.
  • Working with engineers to shape non-functional requirements (performance, resilience, scalability, security) and ensuring our platforms meet them.
  • Championing good operational practices such as incident management, post-incident reviews, and runbooks.
  • Helping to standardise tooling, patterns, and reference architectures so new teams can get productive quickly.
  • Contributing to documentation that makes our platform easy to understand, adopt, and evolve.
What We Are Looking For - Skills

The ideal candidate has a strong platform and infrastructure focus, with solid software engineering fundamentals. You should be comfortable working with cloud-native tooling and modern DevOps practices.

Experience and knowledge that would be well suited to this role includes:

  • Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud provider, ideally Azure (ARM/Bicep) and/or AWS (CloudFormation/CDK/Terraform).
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD practices and tools, for example Azure Pipelines or GitHub Actions.
  • Experience deploying and operating applications built with Node.js and/or other modern back-end technologies.
  • Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration (for example Docker and Kubernetes or Azure Container Apps).
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (DNS, HTTP, TLS, routing, load balancing).
  • Experience implementing observability using tools such as Application Insights, Prometheus/Grafana, Elastic, or similar.
  • Awareness of security best practices in the cloud, including identity and access management, secrets management, and least-privilege principles.

We'd also expect competency with:

  • Version control using Git and modern branching strategies.
  • Monitoring and managing environments across multiple stages (dev, test, pre-prod, prod).
  • Working with project and work tracking tools such as Azure Boards or Jira.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to debug complex issues that span code, infrastructure, and data.

We're passionate about driving value with AI, so any experience integrating with LLMs, AI services, or building platforms that support AI workloads is a great bonus.

This role offers the chance to work with a wide variety of technologies and continually expand your skillset while shaping how we build and operate platforms for our clients.

Behaviours That Matter

We're looking for individuals who bring both technical capability and the right mindset.

The behaviours we value most include:

  • A genuine curiosity to learn - someone who asks questions, digs into how systems really work, and takes the time to understand both the client and the product.
  • A calm, pragmatic approach when things go wrong, with a focus on learning and improving rather than blame.
  • Strong communication skills, able to explain complex technical topics clearly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • An openness to constructive feedback, and a willingness to give clear, kind feedback to others.
  • A friendly, approachable attitude that contributes to a supportive and collaborative team culture.
  • A clear passion for engineering, platforms, and reliability, with a focus on delivering quality and making things better over time.
  • A desire to stay current with emerging technologies and platform best practices, encouraging a culture of continuous improvement.
What We Offer
  • Salary up to £60,000 per annum depending on experience.
  • 25 days of annual leave plus all UK bank holidays.
  • Opportunity to work on innovative projects with a talented team.
  • Professional development and training opportunities.
  • Flexible working hours and remote work options.
  • A collaborative and supportive company culture.
  • Strong client relationships with daily contact to ensure functionality delights.
  • Opportunities for skill mastery and mentoring within a small consultancy where everyone's opinion counts.
  • Regular company celebrations (Summer and Christmas parties!).
  • Gym and fitness studio.
  • Office located 60 seconds from New Street Station - right in the heart of Birmingham City Centre.
