Planning Policy Team Leader

Our client, Southwark Council, is seeking a Planning Policy Team Leader to join their team.
Requirements include experience in local plan-making and London Plan. The role involves commissioning and managing technical evidence base workstreams, writing briefs, and preparing reports to support the development of the new Local Plan. Desirable expertise includes Housing, Infrastructure delivery, and Employment and Retail. London Plan experience is essential. The role may involve supervising junior staff. The position is based in central London with an office presence of 3 days a week. The initial contract duration is 3 months, with potential for extension.
The successful candidate will:
- Lead in providing planning policy expertise for the Southwark Plan and support staff development in a learning environment.
- Develop effective working relationships with colleagues internally and with planners across London to align aims and priorities.
- Collaborate with transport, environment, and planning colleagues and professional associations to advance their improvement agenda.
- Lead policy document development with managerial support.
- Work with local partners and other council departments to identify policy and monitoring opportunities supporting key objectives, linking these to planning application decisions and policy implementation.
- Coordinate with professional officers to deliver high-quality, outcomes-focused planning services tailored to client needs, including elected officials and committees.
