Job Description

Our client is a dynamic, vibrant and growing specialist Accountancy Practice based in the Lisburn area. Due to ongoing expansion, a superb opportunity has arisen for an experienced Personal Tax Senior to join the Firm. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build a long-term career with a Practice that rewards and recognises talent and achievement.

THE ROLE

The successful candidate will take ownership of a portfolio of personal tax clients and to lead the delivery of their personal tax service. This is a senior, client-facing role with genuine influence over how the department works - you will review the work of others, shape processes, and act as a first point of contact for clients and for the team.

  • Managing a substantial portfolio of personal tax clients for both NI and Republic of Ireland clients , including many in the medical sector, high-net-worth individuals, partnerships, company directors and landlords
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for clients on their tax affairs, building enduring relationships and providing proactive, forward-looking tax planning Identifying planning opportunities across income tax, capital gains tax, inheritance tax and remuneration planning, and presenting them to clients clearly
  • Advising on residency and domicile matters, property and rental income, share disposals, and pension contributions where relevant Preparing self-assessment tax returns for the firm's more complex clients Reviewing tax returns, income and expenditure accounts, rental accounts and supporting working papers prepared by junior colleagues, ensuring each file is accurate, complete and compliant before submission
  • Checking HMRC tax calculations, PAYE coding notices and penalty determinations, and liaising with HMRC on adjustments
  • Supervising, supporting and developing the tax team, allocating work and providing technical guidance and feedback Leading on the department's response to Making Tax Digital for Income Tax - educating clients, driving the conversion of their records to digital software, and embedding the new quarterly cycle into our processes
  • Continuously reviewing and improving the personal tax workflow, with a particular interest in streamlining and automating routine work where it adds value

THE PERSON

  • Be a qualified tax or accounting professional - ATT and/or CTA, or ACA/ACCA with a strong personal tax bias
  • Have at least five years' relevant personal tax experience, ideally gained within a small to medium sized practice
  • Have demonstrable experience of managing a client portfolio and reviewing the work of others
  • Have a track record of advising clients directly, including on non-routine and technical matters Be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Have excellent organisation skills, accuracy and attention to detail
  • Possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex tax matters to clients in plain terms
