Job Description
Perinatal Mental Health Practitioner

A unique and varied role has become available at HMP Peterborough within the Mental Health Team. We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Mental Health Nurse who will become the Mental Health Perinatal Lead Practitioner. All training and supervision will be tailored to support the development in knowledge, understanding, and skills in perinatal mental health. The post holder will form part of the multi skilled mental health team and will also be part of the leadership team to help develop and shape the services for the future. A qualification and scope of practice as an NMP in mental health or a willingness to undertake this training would be advantageous.

Main duties of the job

Key duties and responsibilities for the post include:

  • Develop and provide specialist knowledge, advice, consultation and a range of clinically based interventions for the Mental Health Service where perinatal factors are identified, ensuring that assessments, treatments and ongoing care as required are delivered within the prison environment.
  • Develop and provide specialist knowledge and interventions for the perinatal mental health pathway to ensure that women with moderate to severe mental health conditions who are planning pregnancy, pregnant, have experienced a pregnancy loss in the last year or have a child under one, receive high quality, evidence based specialist advice, assessment and interventions.
  • Ensure that relevant data relating to patients falling under the perinatal pathway is monitored and recorded, providing narrative analysis and appropriate adjustment to clinical interventions where emergent themes and trends are identified.

Qualifications Education
  • RMN NMC Registration
  • Ability to record, monitor and report on clinical information
  • Evidence of further education
  • Experience of assessment and treatment of patients with a range of needs of a complex nature
  • Ability to respond flexibly to patient need
  • Understanding of the perinatal pathway
Security Vetting
  • The application must include evidence of the required years of UK residency to meet prison vetting standards.
Experience
  • Experience in training, teaching and delivering clinical supervision
  • Research skills, knowledge and aptitude
  • Experience of working with clients presenting with challenging behaviour
  • Experience of working with stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently within a framework
  • Ability to support team manager with all aspects of service delivery and improvement
